AMPLIFY! is a project by the New School, partnered with the Lower East Side Ecology Center and funded by the Rockefeller Foundation proposing a fresh look at urban activism in NYC.

AMPLIFY! what?

Urban Activists are people who aren’t waiting for governments and businesses any more. Instead, they are creating more sustainable ways of living and working for themselves. They represent a possible sustainable future but are often below the radar of media, government, and the general public. How can we find, improve, and spread these good ideas?

The AMPLIFY! Project aims at documenting urban activism initiatives in NYC and helping those initiatives become easier and more enjoyable through design. In 2010 we are focusing on the Lower East Side where we have already started documenting community gardens and other initiatives in the area. We will show what we’ve found so far and continue the dialogue with the community in the AMPLIFY! Exhibition.
